It is not known when this was composed but there is evidence that it was early in the 20th Century. Other versions of the music exist, Air for piano (1.1.2 Ai) and Air for orchestra (1.3.4.1 Ai), neither of which includes the introduction. This edition has been prepared from the composer’s manuscripts at the National Library of Australia.
